Walk for Lupus Now is the signature event of the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. In more than 50 cities across America, thousands of people walk to make a difference in the lives of those affected by lupus and raise essential funds for research, education, and support services.

Walk for Lupus Now is a family-friendly event that raises funds to support the programs and services of the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA). The Charleston Walk for Lupus Now will take place on April 18, 2010 at Park West Recreation Department, 1251 Park West Blvd. (at the track) in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Making a difference starts with one step.

It is estimated that 1.5 million Americans and more than 22,000 in South Carolina have a form of lupus. Lupus is an acute and chronic (lifelong) autoimmune disease in which the immune system is unbalanced, causing inflammation and tissue damage to virtually every organ system in the body. November 2008 marked 50 years since a drug has been approved for the treatment of lupus. There is hope on the horizon, and with your help we can find better treatments and a cure for lupus.

We at the Medical University of South Carolina Lupus Erythematosus Group are working extremely hard to identify causes and better treatments for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). We are pleased to have had the opportunity of working with patients with lupus, their families, and friends over the years.  It is because of you that we are able to do what we do.

Members of the MUSCLE group are active in education programs locally through public schools, health fairs, news media, and churches, as well as nationally through leadership in the LFA and the Office of Women's Health.  Our team is comprised of Adult and Pediatric Rheumatologists, Nurse Practioners, Epidemiologists, Study Coordinators, and other Support Staff who are all caring and committed to increasing the community's awareness of lupus and promote earlier evaluation and treatment through clinical care services and research.

Anna Meyer would like to invite you to support Team M.U.S.C.L.E. Help us find a cure for lupus. No contribution is too small and all will be greatly appreciated!!
